Normal Puppy Behavior – Chewing!  Part 4 of our series!  10 Most Important Things to Teach Your Puppy, not to chew on something you value!

New puppies are just like new babies, they explore with their mouths!  And just like new babies, as a pet parent, you will need to teach him what is acceptable and what isn’t.

Just as we talked about planning in part 3 of this series, Housebreaking, your puppy will need to learn what is appropriate to chew. When you bring your new puppy home, my suggestion to all new puppy parents is to have several different chew toys.

Another great option are elk or deer antlers.  Again, you want to make sure that you are getting the right size for a puppy.   Antlers are great natural chews that last a very long time.

My #1 favorite is the stuffed Kong!  The stuffed Kong comes in many sizes depending on the size of your puppy.   I would tend to buy the size that they puppy is when you bring him home.  I prefer to stuff the Kongs with kibble and peanut butter, or even a canned food as opposed to the fillings Kong sells.

Of course, your new puppy will also have some stuffed animal toys.  They really do love the kind that squeak.

This is Sam as a baby, as soon as I saw this picture I fell in love with him!

At Magnolia Australian Labradoodles, your new puppy will come home with a favorite toy!  Whatever you choose, make sure that it is safe for your puppy!  http://www.magnoliaaustralianlabradoodles.com/puppy-supplies/
